Hi, friend!

I’m Amber. I like tropical plants, any and all pastries, and craft beer.

I grew up playing sports very competitively (soccer, rugby, track, volleyball) and discovered that skillset made me an outlier among my art school peers. This meant that I defiantly made every assignment about sports, competition, and athletics. I painted the racing bibs to my best track races, my track spikes, kettlebells, and all my sneakers. While I’ve no longer been able to participate in sports, I did eventually develop a soul-affirming passion for creating visual pieces.

I’ve since transitioned my work from displays of athletics, to those of tropical plants that challenge our typical visual perception. I alter ordinary shapes’ colours to enliven different areas of our brains when examining the work.

I want to encourage “double-takes”.

There is hard scientific evidence that certain images, colours, and shapes can improve human beings’ mental health, and I want to incorporate as much of this type of evidence into my work. I strive to deliver a scientifically-backed endorphin rush.

It means the world to me that you are reading, interacting with, collecting, and sharing my work. It’s with your support that I can continue learning, exploring and creating.

Thank you.

Deeply.

Amber

Murals were my “pandemic pivot”. Bringing colour, nature, and uncommon images to commonplace industrial spaces is my new favourite creative outlet. Murals bring community involvement and visual awe from a safe social distance. They add interest and allow the public to see their daily commutes and monotonous surroundings in new, more imaginative ways.

I have also created a line of introvert-friendly greeting cards and self-care items called Homebody. All products have been sustainably printed using soy-based ink in a process known as Risoprinting. I felt that spending $9 on a glittery “let’s all get together and party” kind of greeting card was completely insane. Homebody’s focus is to celebrate the everyday connections and events we have in our lives (and without glitter).
